The American Dream

It may be just that simple.

Following that statement, seems kinda trite to get into the details... But my weekend trip to Kentucky calls for just that. My sister-in-law to be put on an ivory gown suiting her expectant belly just perfect and declared her vows on May 13 beside a waterfall at a very significant Mill in Kentucky history... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Mill_Springs

The wedding went just as it should for a small gathering of closest family and friends. For me, it was almost as if us 5 Canadians (Jason, his parents, lil sister and I) got plunked into a modern version of Cold Mountain. Like, they really do have their own culture going on down there in the lush green hills... Fried chicken, historic houses with two-story wrap around porches, bourbon, politics and more "yes'ms" than I could count. Okay so we were outnumbered entirely but it was certainly a celebration that seemed to signify that our Karen has embraced the Southern Hospitality way of life.

To this I say, "damn Yankees" I mean - Bravo! (lol) Really, why not? We all want to carve out a place for ourselves...

So what was that bittersweet underlying the day then? Maybe it was because I'm slightly in the "wedding mode" right now and may be harbouring certain "expectations" that I couldn't help but wonder a few times - is this it?

Yes it was. The answer is that simple - American or not it is indeed just this:

You fall in love, you say it out loud in front of your family and then you continue to let the wind at your back guide you to prosperity.

Hugs and Love,
Angela
